IP52 provides level 5 protection against solids and level 2 protection against liquids, as defined by IEC 60529.
5First digit: Solid protection
Dust-protected. Limited ingress of dust permitted, not enough to interfere with operation

Dust chamber, talcum powder
8 hours in dust chamber with pressure differential; no harmful deposits
2Second digit: Liquid protection
Protection against vertically falling water drops when enclosure is tilted up to 15 degrees
Test method
Drip box or oscillating tube
3 mm/min rainfall for 2.5 min per tilt position (4 positions)
