IP49 provides level 4 protection against solids and level 9 protection against liquids, as defined by IEC 60529.

Protection against solid objects over 1.0 mm (e.g. thin wires, screws)

Probe must not penetrate the enclosure
9Second digit: Liquid protection
Protection against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets and steam cleaning
Test method
EN 60529 / DIN 40050-9 (IPX9K)
80 degrees C water at 80-100 bar, 14-16 liters/min at close range (100-150 mm)
